Breast Augmentation Consultations
If you
decide to explore your options for breast enhancement, the first step is to schedule a consultation with a plastic
surgeon. Make sure you are prepared with a list of any questions you may have about breast augmentation, breast implants,
the TUBA procedure, details of the surgery, recovery time and costs. The surgeon should fully address all of your
questions and give you a clear picture of the surgical process, the recovery, your post-operative needs and possible
risks and complications.
At the consultation, you will discuss your goals and motivations for cosmetic surgery, including your
desired breast size. You should be shown before and after photos of the surgeon's work and may experiment with "sizers" placed
into a surgical or sports bra to give you an idea of what you may look like with breast implants of various sizes.
As you "try on" different sizes, photos may be taken for later reference in helping you make your final
decision.
The surgeon will conduct a physical examination during the consultation, noting the size and shape
of your breasts, their symmetry and the distance between the breasts (cleavage). The surgeon will also assess your
skin characteristics and any other factors that could affect breast augmentation surgery. You will be asked to discuss
your overall health and medical history to make sure you are not at risk for undue complications. Be sure to bring
a list of your current medications and a list of prior surgeries with you to your consultation.
After the consultation, you should feel educated about the cosmetic surgery procedure and confident
in the skills of your plastic surgeon. If you decide to proceed with breast augmentation, your surgeon will provide
you with specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery. These instructions will include guidelines for eating,
drinking, and medications and vitamins to take or avoid before and after surgery.
